There is more than 1 Way to get Lean
Weight training, metabolic intervals, and eating supportively are the three things you have heard me preach about time and time again. I’ve also talked about their level of importance when trying to get lean and lose body fat. Supportive nutrition, weight training, then metabolic intervals or cardio is the standard order of importance. However, for some this just might not work. But its not a question of science, rather an issue of individuality.
Each person is going to be a little different when it comes to losing fat. Most will achieve maximum results from following the standard procedure of eating supportively, and focusing a huge amount of attention on it, then perform weight training predominately followed by metabolic interval cardio in terms of importance and frequency. However, there are a select few that will still get results from this formula, but won’t maximize their potential. Some individuals will respond better to more metabolic interval cardio sessions AND Cardio in general, and a few less weight training sessions. So how the heck do you know which group you fall into?
You won’t know for sure unless you try both. Start with the standard protocol for losing fat and try it for 4-6 weeks measuring your results along the way (body fat measurements and inches). By following the protocol you should see around 6-8 pounds of weight lost, and 1.5-2% body fat lost. If you see minimal to zero results AND you followed the protocol (very important), then you might benefit better from an additional cardio session or two per week and one less weight training session per week.
The tricky part in all this is to give the first protocol a chance to succeed AND to give it your best effort. Eating well half the time is not giving it a chance. All components have to be in place and you must practice them consistently in order to truly find out if it doesn’t work. Then and only then will you know for sure the best method that will work for you to lose maximum amounts of fat.

Hi Ben,
My workouts genrally are interval weight training with 30 seconds on ,30 seconds off for twenty minutes followed by ten to twenty minutes of interval sprints of the same nature. This does work; however if I plateau I will do a twenty minute “boring cardio run”. Although this goes against the “science” and it works for me.
Cheers!
